Minor league baseball question

Postby daveed » Fri Apr 11, 2008 12:55 pm

I'm looking into getting tickets for my dad for his 70th birthday, and the ball club nearest him is "AA League".

Not knowing a thing about minor leagues, how would you classify an "AA-league" team? I just don't to take my dad to some backlot game.

If you like baseball in general, could you really go wrong? I imagine that if you think you would like college baseball that you would likely enjoy a AA game. The minor league teams go from A to AA to AAA and then you have the big show which are the major league teams that we all know and love.

More often, very good players would be found at the AAA level. If you go to the amazing places in Brooklyn and Staten Island for A baseball, you get to see very young baseball players. Most have just started their dreams.

Depending on circumstances, where and which AA teams, you might see future mlb starters and even stars. Probably not though. For every Santana you might be so lucky to find at the minor level, you are more likely to see hundreds of bull durhams.
I find that watching baseball at less skilled levels helps me to appreciate simply the game itself. But then you can appreciate more the skill and expertise shown at the major levels.

These blogs show some prospects that were recently at the AA level. You may recognize some names that currently are playing with the NY Yankees. Enjoy.

Hey, thanks for the info.

I'm not big into baseball (I'm fairly illiterate when it comes to professional sports) but my dad really enjoys it. So it's more for him, and we get to hang out and celebrate his birthday. (Mom's not allowed... :) )

This would be a Jacksonville Suns game. Do you know anything about them?

Suns never set Re: Minor league baseball question

Hope you will let us know how the festivities are. Happy Bday to Mr. Pa. for a great 70

Didnt know much really about these Suns. It is a darn thing about minor league teams that if the players do really well then they are likely to get promoted. Which puts your local team back some steps.
I see the Suns have quite a history with various teams. Now they are affiliated or hooked up with the LA Dodgers.
Not too shabby. It looks like their recent star in the MLB would now be Russell Martin. :partytime:

Best wishes. Enjoy.

The Dodger connection is cool b/c my dad's a native Brooklynite. :)

1 - congrats to you Philly phanatics
It was stunning to have 2 east coast teams battling and neither one was the Yanks nor Mets

It is sort of a 'free' market, but I kinda feel bad for Milwaukee. They put a decent $20M offer on the table, and then the Yanks come in and blow past that.
That said, I wonder if any pitcher would really rather pitch in WI. And I am glad the Yanks may get another true Ace.

Go Yanks.
